Kevin T. Foley, MD


Dr. Foley is a practicing neurosurgeon and active entrepreneur who has revolutionized minimally invasive spine surgery. Currently, Dr. Foley is the Director of Complex Spine Surgery at Semmes-Murphey Neurologic & Spine Institute and a Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Tennessee. He has authored over 30 book chapters and more than 100 journal publications, and lectured at more than 200 scientific meetings and educational workshops. He holds 150 patents for surgical devices and methods. Dr. Foley received his medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1979. He served in the United States Army Medical Corps until 1992, culminating in service as the Chief of Neurosurgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

Flagg Flanagan

Chief Executive Officer & Chairman of the Board

Mr. Flanagan has over 30 years of experience in the medical device field as an entrepreneur, executive and advisor. He founded Flanagan Instruments in 1981 and built it into a leading neurosurgical device distribution business specializing in microscopes, spine products and biologics. He sold the business to Itochu International in 2005. Mr. Flanagan is currently on the board of several medical device and startup companies, including TrueVision Systems and Image Stream Medical. In 2001, he attended the Owner/President Management Program at Harvard Business School.

Bob Wynalek

Chief Operating & Commercialization Officer, Director

Mr. Wynalek is a skilled medical device and biologics executive, with over 28 years of experience in the orthopedic, spinal, and neurosurgical markets. He has served in a number of executive and senior management positions including business development, product development, marketing and sales management. Most recently, Mr. Wynalek was the President of domestic business for Osteotech Inc, a market leader in biologics for bone healing, which was acquired by Medtronic, Inc. in late 2010. His previous experience includes Medtronic, Sofamor Danek Group, Smith & Nephew Orthopedics, and Becton Dickinson.

Lara Ionescu Silverman, PhD

Director of Research & Development

Dr. Silverman is a biomedical engineer specializing in orthopedics and tissue engineering. Most recently, she received her Doctorate in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. Concurrent with her studies, she worked at the UPenn Technology Transfer Office assisting with patenting novel inventions. Prior to graduate school, Dr. Silverman worked as a strategic and marketing consultant at Rosetta Inc. She received her Bachelors in Chemical Engineering from Princeton University in 2006.

Anthony Mangum, MBA

Manager: Operations & Finance

Mr. Mangum provides financial and operational support to DiscGenics. He received his MBA from the University of Utah, specializing in finance. During this time, he also worked at the Wayne Brown Institute, facilitating venture funding for local start-up companies. Previously, Mr. Mangum worked at Kimly C. Mangum, PC planning/architectural firm from 1996-2012 as a project manager and senior designer, managing multifunctional teams and executing projects that led to significant corporate growth.
